I want to share miscellaneous blogging tips that will help you be successful.
Read below to learn more of my top blogging tips.
- Laila, when is the right time for me to quit my day job for full time blogging like you did?
If you are not a stay at home mom or dad, if you are not full-time working from home – if you have a stable job and you have never tried blogging, I would strongly recommend you to keep working for at least first 6 months when you are starting your blog!
I quit my bank job for FULL TIME blogging in 2016.
That was 4 years after I started blogging.
Today, I do nothing but blog and earn money.
Quitting your job to start a blog from scratch, if you don’t have enough savings to support yourself for at least 6 months, can ruin you. Seriously.
You can end up with disappointment and probably will have to return to 9-5 jobs in a couple of months.
And this is because it’s not easy to make a living with a brand new blog, when you are still learning everything, making mistakes and building trust.
But a blog is really worth starting! It’s not so difficult as it seems for a newbie because the Internet is full of guidelines, tutorials for every step of your blogging journey!
- Be Yourself
When starting your blog, be yourself!
Don’t try to pretend you’re someone else. I love reading real blogs where I can tell who the writer is just by reading what they have written. No one wants to read bland, boring posts.
Inject all of your personality in them!
Have fun with it and determine why you really want to blog.
- Above all else, CONSISTENCY is key in building a profitable blog
Like all worthy pursuits in life, you only get out what you put in. So if you don’t invest your time, effort, creativity and a little bit of financial resources into the growth and future profitability of your blog, then you won’t make it very far down this path.
Whether you like it or not, this is going to take hard work from your side—sustained over the months (and hopefully years) to come.
Now here’s why that’s a beautiful thing… because you’ve chosen a niche you’re personally interested in blogging about, this new business is a direct path to getting paid for doing something you truly enjoy.
I can’t even begin to explain how much joy it brings me on a regular basis, earning an income as a result of sitting down and writing for hours (something I love to do).
This is the exact feeling I want for you.
In order to get there, it’s going to take consistency, commitment and discipline.
I know you can do this (because I’ve done it).
And if I can do it… you can too!
When I started my blog in 2012, I knew NOTHING about “blogging” and “marketing.” But I committed myself to learning.
I’ve made plenty of mistakes and wasted a ton of time on ideas & strategies that didn’t work.
This course is my playbook for what does work.
Follow it, adapt when you need to, and remain consistent.
Do that consistently and you will grow. It will happen!
- Apply the 80-20 rule to content promotion
My biggest secret to success in blogging, lies in my ability to promote my content.
And if you want to quickly attract readers to your blog, you need to spend 20% of your time with writing and a whooping 80% of your time promoting your content after it’s published on your blog.
Refer back to the traffic driving tactics we covered in previous lessons of this course.
Share your content in 4-5 relevant social media pages – be it Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, Youtube, Instagram, Pinterest, etc.
Share your contents on social media groups, online communities.
Pop over to sites like Quora to answer 2-3 questions related to your topic, send emails to other people who’ve written about the same subject asking if they’d be willing to share on their social channels.
By the end of your first 90 days, you’ll have connected with and helped hundreds of people within your niche—and that’s a priceless investment in your blog’s future.
- Reply to Comments
I LOVE when I leave a comment on a blog that contains a question, and the writer will answer it.
I almost always go back to blogs that I comment on to see what was written back.
Interacting with readers is always important.
Something that you should always put major effort towards is always making sure to reply to comments. Sometimes the comments are just a “thanks,” but youir readers will honestly enjoy it knowing that you actually read the comment they left.
- Get Rid of Captcha
Captcha, oh captcha. I go nuts when I try leaving a comment and I see this.
For some reason I can never get it on the first try. I’m fine with the “tests” right before you leave a comment that ask for what “1+1” is, but when it says to decipher what “32097 dfg fdgjh3 4” and it’s super blurry and all of the letters seem to go in different directions?
Sometimes I feel like I’m trying forever and have given up on leaving a comment before.
Instead install a good comment spam plugin that doesn’t make your readers jump through hoops.
I like the free WordPress plugin “Akismet.”
- Make it Easy to Subscribe
I cannot tell you how many times I have gone to a website and they have made it impossible for me to subscribe.
Either none of the links work, or there are no links altogether.
No links for e-mail, Twitter, Facebook, subscribing, etc
Please make it easier for readers to subscribe on your blog! We want to be able to find you more easily in the future.
- Make Friends
One of the best things that I love about blogging is the awesome community that it brings.
I have made many friends through my blog, and a lot of you I talk to nearly every single day.
I really cannot say enough about making blogger friends.
Reach out by commenting on their blogs, interacting on Facebook, tweeting on Twitter and so on. Of course, be yourself, and don’t force a relationship to happen.
Be natural and make friends just like how you would in “real life.”
- Make it easy to share Your posts
A lot of the time, readers like to share posts that they really enjoy.
I’ve been to a couple of blogs where when you click on the share button, it doesn’t work. Fix this!
Make it easier for people to show you recognition and love by sharing your contents.
- Build a Loyal Following
If you want to make money from your blog, then you need to consider ways that you can solve someone’s problems, i.e. provide solutions for people.
Making sure you always provide value and seeking constant feedback from your readers are two of the most effective ways to build a loyal brand following.
Again, your blog needs three things in order to establish audience loyalty:
Reputation, Credibility and Integrity.
Don’t ever think because you are a blogger, you can publish fake news for clicks and then build a loyal following.
When it comes to audience loyalty, most blogs blame the audience, competition, or marketing efforts – everyone but themselves – for their lack of loyalty.
Please don’t be like these bloggers.
- Have Fun!
Yes, different people start a blog for different reasons.
But if you do decide to start one, have fun with it!
I feel that the best blogs out there are by writers who are having fun with it.
I enjoy having a blog, and it has turned into a great hobby and business.
If you are interested in starting a blog of your own, I created a tutorial that will help you start a blog of your own for cheap, starting at only $3.95 per month (this low price is only through my link) for blog hosting. In addition to the low pricing, you will receive a free website domain (a $15 value) through my Bluehost link if you purchase, at least, 12 months of blog hosting. FYI, if you are asking yourself “can you make money blogging?” – my top tip is to be self-hosted. This is essential if you want to monetize your blog as you will appear more professional and this will help you monetize your blog tremendously. My blogging income did not take off until after I switched to self-hosted WordPress.
That is the end of our free email blogging course!
I hope you learned a lot over the past week.
Whenever a good blogging tip or resource comes across my plate, I’ll make sure to send you an email and share it with you ASAP.
Thank you again for signing up and taking this course with me.
