How to decide what to blog about

Every blog needs a niche topic to write about.

how to start a blog

You can’t create a blog and say you are going to blog about everything and anything.

This will make your blog too unfocused and no one will read it.

To start a blog that actually makes money, you need to figure out what your niche is and draw up a launch plan.

So, what is a niche?

A niche is the specific topic you’ll write about on your blog.

It’s very essential to know what topics you’ll write on on your blog.

And today, I will show you how to pick a profitable niche for your blog so you can profit from your hard work.

How To Choose A Niche For Your Blog (That You Won’t Regret Later)

Here is how I chose my own niche back in 2012 for my blog:

Personally, I started with my passion.

I enjoy telling stories and when time came for me to start blogging, I chose the news niche.

If I were to start all over and choose my niche today, I would choose a profitable niche that I have passion for.

What’s that?

A profitable niche is a blog topic that has a large audience of people buying things online.

And sincerely, that’s what you need to make money from blogging.

A niche where people are buying, buying, and buying.

The best niches are ones where you’re solving a problem for somebody. Once you figure out a way to help people with their problems then the money will follow.

You need to create a blog where you sell what people are already buying.

Sponsored posts and direct advertising helped me make so much money that I could become a full-time blogger.

A sponsored post is where a blogger gets paid to promote a certain product via blog post, YouTube video, Instagram post, etc.

I regularly receive sponsored posts and I absolutely love doing them!

I also get invites to product launch events, for example from phone companies, where I’m given samples to test and in exchange, I get to keep the brand new phones and a flat fee to create the sponsored post.

All of these earning opportunities are open to you too after you start your blog tomorrow.

  • 3. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is essentially making a commission off of another person or company’s product.

With affiliate marketing, you can talk about these products and get paid for it by placing affiliate links within your posts.

  • 4. Offer Services

Many bloggers opt to offer services on their blog. What are you skilled at? What certifications do you have? If you’re a personal trainer, you can offer meal and workout plan services.

If you’re a life coach, you can offer your services via your blog. The options are endless.

You can place a services page on your blog that shares what you offer.

  • 5. Sell A Digital Product

Bloggers sell digital products from their niche for money. Instead of selling services, you can create guides, courses, webinars, and so on with topics in your niche.

What are you naturally great at? What skill have you learned and become proficient at? Bloggers make money with digital products and with your blog, you can create a digital product in your niche and become a baller! 🙂

Should a person be an expert or have a degree in the niche they choose?

A question I often get asked is ”Laila, should a person be an “expert” in their niche before they start a blog?

Answer is – You don’t need to be an expert or have a degree in most cases when it comes to blogging. Experience and passion is enough.

HOWEVER, if you are giving advice about legal or medical matters where you could get someone in a lot of trouble if you tell them the wrong information, then, yes, you should probably be an expert.

I started news blogging despite being a banker. I wasn’t a journalist.

However, I made sure I never publish fake news.

Today, I want you to decide what you will blog about.
